Fire Grille

Fire GrilleFire Seal Store has a range of Fire Grille’s available to order online for next day delivery.

Fire Grille’s are extremely important when protecting a building again fire. Many regular air grille’s allow ventilation however, in a fire situation they often fail to provide sufficient protection. If a fire resistant wall has a regular  air grille installed it can significantly affect the resistance against fire the wall may have, therefore a sufficient fire grille is necessary.

Once a fire grille reaches a certain temperature in a fire situation, the grille slats will swell to many times their thickness and fuse together to create a barrier to prevent hot gases and smoke flowing through a building. In a normal situation a fire grille will allow regular air to flow through a building. Our choice of fire grilles are tested to 30-60 minute fire resistances meaning they can prevent gases and smoke flowing for up to 30-60 minutes depending on the fire grille that you choose. This will ensure that your fire wall is full protected against fire, in addition to fire grilles, if you have service pipes which have penetrated your fire wall our fire pipe collars are perfect for ensuring full protection.

Our choice of fire grilles are available in a number of different sizes ranging from 150mm x 150mm x 40mm (which offers ventilation of up to 153cmsq) to 300mm x 300mm x 40mm (which offers ventilation of up to 614cmsq).

Compression Seals

Compression SealsFire Seal Store offers a range of Compression Seals available for next day delivery. One of the most widely used compression seals is the P Shape seal (Pictured left). This seal can be used around doors and windows to help protect a property from the elements, and also prevent heat escaping. When installed the compression seal is squeezes often 10 to 15% of its original diameter to cause a snug, secure seal.

Compression seals can help absorb the tolerance between surfaces, for instance when a building moves, bends or flexes, compression seals can absorb this without losing the snug seal. They are particularly useful for buildings that use timber, or other wood. This is due to wood expanding over time, this can cause normal seals to break or lose their sealing properties. A compression seal will bend and flex to help maintain a secure seal.

In addition to its flexible properties, a compression seal can also maintain their seals to a range of pressures up to 200psi. This is perfect for high pressure environments to ensure a secure seal is always present. Compression Seals are available in a range of shapes and sizes, from rectangular gins to quad rings. Many do the same job as a p shaped compression seal, however P shape seals are more widely used due to their ease of installation and fantastic sealing properties. At Fire Seal Store our p-shaped seals are available in a number of different colours, this ensures that your seal blends seamlessly into your window or door frame.

All of our compression seals are available for next day home delivery.

Ensuring you have the correct fire protection products is vital, Fire Seal Store has a wide range of fire seals, smoke seals, intumescent seals and more, to ensure that your truly protected against fire. This post will help give you an overview of some seals that we sell to help improve fire protection in buildings.

Fire Seals

Fire Seals are one of the easiest ways to improve fire protection in your home or business, by adding fire seals around doors, windows and other openings can help prevent fire from spreading to a room for a period of time. They are extremely easy to install as they come with a self-adhesive backing to ensure a secure, tight fit.

All of the fire seals that are available on our online store are tested to BS 476 part 20:22 for fire only and BS 476 part 31:1 for smoke leakage, giving a comprehensive combined fire and smoke seal.

Fire Seal

Example of a Fire Seal

Our range of fire seals are available in a choice of 30-60 minute ratings, which means that they should withstand flames and smoke for up to 30, or 60 minutes depending on the seal. The majority of our fire seals also come in a choice of colours and finishes to match your door, to help provide sufficient sealing and protection, without intruding on the style of your door.

Smoke Seals

It’s not just fire’s that can be harmful when a building is ablaze, there are also a mix of toxic smoke that can be extremely harmful to you lungs. Toxic smoke in a fire can come from a range of sources such as melting plastic, therefore installing smoke seals are extremely important.

Smoke Seal

Example of a Smoke Seal

Smoke seals are designed to help prevent harmful smoke from spreading throughout a  burning building, ideal in case you become trapped in a room. Many smoke seals are designed to expand when they reach a certain temperature to help seal a door or window  from smoke. As with fire seals, they also come with a 30-60 minute fire rating, which can be the difference between life and death.

Our smoke seal range comes in a range of colours to blend into your door-frame surrounding without being too intrusive of the design. Similar to fire seals, they also have a self-adhesive backing to ensure a secure fit. Many of our fire seals and smoke seals are combined, this allows you to install one seal to prevent fire and smoke from spreading.

Intumescent Seals

Intumescent seals are the new generation of fire seals, they are designed to be used in fire door assemblies, a necessity for controlling fire spreading through buildings. Intumescent seals have PVC casings that contain an expandable graphite-based  compound which is unaffected by moisture in the air. This means that they do not need to be protected when fitted.

Intumescent Seal

Example of an Intumescent Seal

Once the expandable graphite in the intumescent seal reaches a certain temperature, a foam is then produced to fill the door leaf to frame gap. This helps stabilise fire door assembilies as the move and expand under the heat of the fire. This makes intumescent seals the ideal choice for fire protection.
